A small team that takes AI introductions seriously
We are not a large consultancy. We are a careful, considered group of people who believe that AI should be introduced to small businesses at a pace that makes sense — not as fast as possible.
Back to HomeWho we are
Started from a practical question
Bistari Labs came about when two people spent time with a group of small business owners in Petaling Jaya and noticed something consistent: the owners had heard plenty about AI, but nobody had shown them where it would actually help and where it would just add noise.
We started doing exactly that — sitting with business owners, understanding their weekly rhythm, and then finding the specific points where AI tools could take something off their plate without creating new complexity in its place.
Our name comes from bistari — a Malay word meaning wise, careful, and thoughtful. It felt right for what we were trying to do: bring technology in with care, rather than enthusiasm alone.
Our mission
Technology should reduce load, not add it
We work with owners who are already managing everything themselves. They do not have a dedicated IT person or a team to handle new tools. When something goes wrong, it lands on them. So we are very deliberate about what we bring in and how.
Every engagement starts with a conversation about where time is actually lost, not about what AI could theoretically do. We then propose something focused and manageable — and we stay involved until it is working properly and the owner feels fully in control of it.

The people
Who you will be working with
Azri Fadzillah
Co-founder, AI Implementation
Azri spent six years working with enterprise software teams before deciding he wanted to bring the same rigour to small businesses — but without the bureaucracy.
Suraya Rahmat
Co-founder, Client Experience
Suraya ran a retail business in Subang Jaya for four years before joining the technology side. She ensures that every recommendation we make has actually been tested in a real working environment.
Koh Wei Lin
Data & Reporting Specialist
Wei Lin focuses on the reporting side of our work — turning records that owners have been keeping for years into something they can finally read and act on without a spreadsheet degree.
How we work
Standards we keep to on every project
Data Privacy First
Before any AI tool touches your business data, we walk through exactly what it processes and how. We follow Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act and flag anything that warrants a careful look.
Written Scope Always
Every engagement has a written scope agreed before work starts. You know what is included, what is not, and what the handover will look like. No scope changes without your agreement.
Reversibility Matters
We only set things up in ways that can be undone cleanly. If a tool does not work out for your business, removing it should not leave a mess behind.
Clear Documentation
Everything we set up is documented in plain language — not technical notes for developers, but instructions a business owner can follow and share with their staff.
Honest Assessments
If AI is not the right fit for what you need, we will tell you. We do not take on work just to bill for it. Our value is in being useful, not in selling services that will not serve you.
Continuous Learning
The AI field changes quickly. We keep our knowledge current so our recommendations reflect what is practical today, not what was fashionable twelve months ago.
Our values in practice
What it looks like to work with a careful team
Small businesses in Malaysia face a particular challenge when it comes to adopting new technology. The available tools are designed for larger organisations with dedicated IT departments. The marketing around AI tends to emphasise speed and scale — two things that are often beside the point for an owner managing a business of ten people or fewer.
At Bistari Labs, we focus on what AI can realistically do for a business operating in the Klang Valley context — where staff may be handling multiple roles, where customer relationships are often personal, and where the owner's time is the most constrained resource in the organisation.
Our process begins with listening. We spend time understanding what a typical week looks like before we suggest anything. From there, we identify the two or three points where a well-chosen AI tool would make a genuine difference — not the most technically impressive option, but the most useful one for that specific situation.
When a project ends, the business owner walks away understanding everything that has been set up. We do not build dependencies. We build capability.
